A few years ago, blogging was a frowned upon — and extremely small — institution within fashion media, and bloggers were rarely taken seriously in the mainstream. Queue in Miss Tavi Gevinson, the now 15-year-old editor in chief of Rookie Magazine, and you can imagine the mayhem and the turning heads as she appeared among the rows at Fashion Week. She’s basically a fashion/style/blogging prodigy — for lack of better words. And, apparently, the young blogger has some musical talents too!
According to The Hollywood Reporter, she’ll be performing Neil Young’s “Heart Of Gold” live on Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012, at 12:30 a.m. at the Standard Hotel in Manhattan’s East Village (and yes, there is a location there, which we didn’t even know about), followed by a screening of the animated filmCadaver, starring the voices of Tavi, Kathy Bates and Christopher Lloyd. The film shares the [relatively depressing] story of an old (and deceased) man who wakes up to say a final goodbye to his wife before passing on and discovering a few truths about death he hadn’t realized before. The film will also be featuring the song performed by Tavi, who was personally given permission to sing the song by Young himself.
Here’s a video of Tavi singing Joni Mitchell’s “Case of You” for one of a blogger’s best friend, a computer’s webcam.
